From Portland Maine

Here are directions from Portland, Maine to Anodyne House.

From Portland, take Interstate 95 north to Brunswick (about 25 miles). Exit the Interstate onto U.S. Route 1 north. Travel through Brunswick, Bath and Wiscassett toward Damariscotta. Watch for signs for Route 129 and South Bristol (about 25 miles). Exit U.S. Route 1, drive through Damariscotta village and turn right at the large white church onto Route 129. There are signs for South Bristol. Stay on Route 129 to South Bristol. Watch carefully, as Route 129 will go to the right after 3 miles at Hanley's Market while Route 130 goes straight. Continue on Route 129 for about 10 miles. You will enter South Bristol village and pass the grammar school on the left. Shipyard Road is about 0.3 miles after the school on the right. There is a sign. If you cross the bridge in the village, you have gone to far. Anodyne House is the first house on the right on Shipyard Road. The driveway is just beyond the house.

Total travel time from Portland is about 1.5 hours.

If you go astray, or will be arriving after dark, please call us at (207) 644-8785. The house will be unlocked and the keys on the dining room table. We will turn lights on for you if we know you will be arriving late.

You may want to consider buying groceries and other necessities in Damariscotta before coming to South Bristol. Anodyne House will have basic cooking and cleanup materials (sugar, ketchup, spices, soap powder etc. and paper products). We have two small milk, bread and beer stores here. Lobsters, clams, other fish, and local produce are usualy available here in July and August. There are two large grocery stores, gourmet food store, and a health food store in 'Scottie. The easiest place to find is the Yellowfront Shopping Center. Rather then turning at the large white church, continue straight ahead, the shopping center will be on the left. There is a larger Hannaford store about a mile further on this road also.
